At Easter, the Lily is worn as symbol of remembrance for Irish republican combatants who died during or were executed after the 1916 Easter Rising.  It was introduced in 1926  by Cumann na mBan, as a lapel pin, the sales of which raised money for the dependents left behind.  With the passage of time, the Easter Lily has become a symbol of unity, equality and freedom for Irish people all over the world.
